Kundli Milan and Janam Kundli

Kundli Milan, also called Guna Milan, is the traditional Vedic method of checking marriage compatibility. It compares the Moon’s rashi (sign) and nakshatra (lunar mansion) in the two birth charts using the Ashtakoota system of eight factors, worth 36 gunas in total.

Traditional practice looks for at least 18 of 36 gunas. Kundli Pro shows 18 to 24 as average, 25 to 32 as good and 33 to 36 as excellent. Astrologers also weigh the doshas and the full horoscopes, so the score is a starting point rather than a final verdict.

Varna (1 point), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7) and Nadi (8). Together they cover spiritual outlook, attraction, wellbeing, physical compatibility, mental affinity, temperament, family welfare, and health and progeny.

Nadi Dosha occurs when both partners have the same nadi, and is given the most weight. Bhakoot Dosha occurs when the Moon signs are 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 from each other. Both have recognised cancellation (parihara) rules, such as the same or friendly sign lords, which Kundli Pro applies and explains.

Manglik (Kuja) Dosha is noted when Mars is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Kundli Pro checks it from the Lagna (Ascendant), the Moon and Venus, and shows cancellations such as Mars in its own or exaltation sign, Jupiter’s aspect, or both partners being Manglik.
